About Us

A kiss from Mother Nature.

A homecoming for sacred knowledge.

Some stories begin with an idea. Ours begins with a nickname — and a grandmother's garden.

African cultural knowledge — passed from grandmothers, mothers, and aunties

IThe Beginning

Some stories begin with an idea.

Ours begins with a nickname: Crocodile Skin.

For our founder, Emma, that name wasn't just cruel; it was a daily reminder of the isolation that comes with severe eczema. Missed school days, hidden arms and legs, the quiet agony of feeling like your own skin is your enemy.

Years later, history repeated itself. Her son was diagnosed with the same condition.

Emma refused to let his story mirror hers. She searched and found expensive imported solutions. Then 2020 arrived. Borders closed. The imports vanished. And in that moment of panic, a memory surfaced: the scent of herbs, the steam of a healing bath, her grandmother's hands gently mixing remedies from her garden.

She called home. “Mama, what did Grandma use?”

The answer was growing wild in her own backyard and waiting in the family pantry.

Those ancestral recipes we recreated. And they worked. For her son & for her.

But she didn't stop there.

IIAcross Kenya

Sacred knowledge in every culture

After the lockdowns lifted, she and her team travelled across Kenya and spoke with different ethnic communities. What they found was humbling and exhilarating: every culture, for generations, has held its own sacred knowledge of botanical skincare.

Communities we listened to

Herbal extracts for soothing rashes. Plant oils for radiance. Barks and leaves for healing wounds and protecting ageing skin. This wisdom has been passed down through grandmothers, mothers, and aunties; often whispered, rarely written, but never forgotten.

That research became the heartbeat of Busu.
IIIHow We Create

Three worlds, one formula

We don't simply revive old recipes. We listen to the elders, then we test. We formulate. The result is something rare: skincare deeply rooted in African heritage and scientifically validated for African skin.

Ancestral Knowledge

We listen to elders and honour botanical wisdom passed down through generations.

Skin Analysis

We analyse skin at a cellular level to understand what African skin truly needs.

Evidence-Based Science

Every formula is tested and validated — especially for eczema, sensitivity, and dry skin.

IVThe Name

Busu means “kiss” in Kiswahili.

Because that's what our products are: a gentle kiss of care from Mother Nature herself — carrying the voice of many ancestors.

We don't just use natural herbal extracts; we share the culture behind every ingredient. No harsh chemicals. No empty promises. Just gentle, effective formulas that honour the past while healing the present.

VIOur Vision

Today's skincare market is failing African consumers — harsh chemicals, hormonal disruptors, and formulas that worsen the very problems they claim to solve. We're here to change that with wisdom rooted in our soil and our stories, not innovation from a lab across the ocean.

To prove that the most powerful solutions for African skin have never been imported. They've been carried in our stories, grown in our gardens, and whispered down through generations of African women who knew exactly what they were doing.

Welcome to Busu — a celebration of every African culture, every herb, and every healing hand that came before us.
